About this yard

Dulwich Riding School has been operating since 1961 and is widely regarded as one of the finest riding schools in the capital, waiting lists of around seven months for new riders reflect its strong reputation. Located on Dulwich Common in SE21, the school holds both ABRS+ and BHS approval, and has received a five-star Health and Safety rating from the local council. Lessons take place in a covered indoor arena or an outdoor manège, ensuring year-round riding in all weathers. The school offers seven progressive standards of instruction from complete beginner to advanced, graded by ability rather than age, allowing riders to work through flatwork, dressage, and show jumping systematically. Hacking into the surrounding Dulwich Woods is also available. The school takes children from six years of age, with junior lessons forming a core part of the programme alongside adult rides, birthday parties, and livery services.

The school teaches adults and children from age six. There is no upper age limit.
What standard do I need to be?
No experience is needed. The school has seven progressive standards from complete beginner through to novice dressage, so there is an appropriate lesson for every level. Riders are grouped by ability, not age.

Yes. The weight limit is 90kg including tack, approximately 14.1 stone. If you are close to the limit, contact the school before booking.

All lessons are one hour in length, whether group, semi-private or private. Group lessons run with up to seven riders; semi-private lessons are for two riders or more up to five, taken at the pace of the least experienced rider.
How do I book?
All bookings must be made by phone on 020 8693 2944. The school does not accept bookings, amendments or cancellations by email. Lessons run seven days a week from 9am to 6pm, with some later slots available Monday to Friday on request. Your spot is not automatically reserved week to week, you must book each session.
