Grenoside Equestrian Centre sits ten minutes from Sheffield city centre near Hillsborough, with acres of off-road woodland hacking on the doorstep. The yard is 5-star licensed by Sheffield City Council and CRB-checked. Lessons run for riders from age 5 (woodland hacks from age 4), in group or private format. A 20 x 40m ménage and a cross-country course support flatwork and jumping training. BHS exam preparation is offered alongside Own a Pony, treasure rides, picnic ride days and birthday parties.

Frequently asked questions

What age can children start riding lessons?

Riding lessons are available from aged 5 years. Woodland rides and hacks are available from aged 4 years upwards.

What is the weight limit for riders?

Riders must be under 13 stone (80 kg).

What clothing is required for riding?

All riders must wear trousers, leggings or jeans with legs fully covered. Riders will not be allowed to ride in shorts or skirts.

What is the cancellation policy?

A strict minimum 24 hour cancellation policy is in operation. Failure to cancel within this period will result in the full riding session being charged.

Do I need to complete any forms before riding?

All riders must complete a Rider Registration Form prior to riding. All medical conditions must be declared on this form.

What to wear

Standard guidance for equestrian yards in the UK. Check with your yard if you're unsure.

Riding helmet

A correctly fitted hat to current safety standards (PAS 015 or VG1). Bicycle helmets are not permitted. Hats are available to hire, usually reserved for first-time riders.

Footwear

Boots with a small heel, riding boots, walking boots or wellies all work. Trainers and flat-soled shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.

Clothing

Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs must be covered, no vest tops or shorts. Jackets and coats should be fastened securely. Waterproofs are recommended for outdoor lessons.

Hair & jewellery

Long hair should be tied back in a ponytail before putting on your helmet. All jewellery must be removed before riding.
