Longfield Equestrian Centre is a BHS 5-star approved riding school in Todmorden, on the edge of the Pennines and within easy reach of Rochdale, Burnley, Halifax and Hebden Bridge. The centre welcomes beginners through to more advanced riders and career students studying equestrian qualifications.

Current prices: Group 30min £16; Group 1hr child £26, adult £31; Hat hire £1. Midweek daytime private 30min £30, 45min £40; Semi-private 30min £25, 45min £35. Evening/weekend private 30min £35, 45min £45; Semi-private 30min £30, 45min £40. Chief Instructor private lessons from £50. Stable management sessions from £8. Also has a holiday cottage available through Sykes Cottages next to the centre.

What to wear

Riding helmet

A correctly fitted hat to current safety standards (PAS 015 or VG1). Bicycle helmets are not permitted. Hats are available to hire, usually reserved for first-time riders.

Footwear

Boots with a small heel, riding boots, walking boots or wellies all work. Trainers and flat-soled shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.

Clothing

Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs must be covered, no vest tops or shorts. Jackets and coats should be fastened securely. Waterproofs are recommended for outdoor lessons.

Hair & jewellery

Long hair should be tied back in a ponytail before putting on your helmet. All jewellery must be removed before riding.
