Mill Farm Riding School & Trekking Centre is set in Hazel Grove, Stockport, with lessons for riders from age 4 upward and trekking through the Cheshire countryside via the Middlewood Way. The school is run by Helen and her team and offers group, semi-private and private lessons throughout the week, with group lessons on Saturdays and Sundays.

Current prices: Group 30min £23, Group 1hr £33; Semi-private 30min £28, Semi-private 1hr £50; Private 30min £34, Private 1hr £60; 1hr hack £50, 1.5hr hack £60; Pony day (9.30am–3.30pm) £50; Pony camp 3 days £260. The school is also a recognised Pony Club centre. Tiny Tots sessions available for toddlers in the week.

Riding helmet

A correctly fitted hat to current safety standards (PAS 015 or VG1). Bicycle helmets are not permitted. Hats are available to hire, usually reserved for first-time riders.

Footwear

Boots with a small heel, riding boots, walking boots or wellies all work. Trainers and flat-soled shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.

Clothing

Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs must be covered, no vest tops or shorts. Jackets and coats should be fastened securely. Waterproofs are recommended for outdoor lessons.

Hair & jewellery

Long hair should be tied back in a ponytail before putting on your helmet. All jewellery must be removed before riding.
