About this yard

Pakefield Riding School has been operating since 1946 on Carlton Road in Lowestoft, within easy riding distance of Pakefield Beach on the Suffolk coast. One of the oldest and best-known riding centres in East Anglia, the school holds BHS and ABRS approval and has been an RDA centre for over 50 years. In 2022 owner Tess Hardy received the Equestrian Business Awards Lifetime Achievement Award.

The flagship activity is the one-hour beach ride, available all year round to all abilities from age two upwards. For beginners, staff lead horses on foot along the beach. For experienced riders, the ride includes walking, trotting and cantering tailored to ability. A three-hour picnic hack is available for experienced riders.

Beyond beach riding, the school offers lessons at all stages, pony-for-a-day, RDA lessons, vaulting and birthday parties. Indoor school, outdoor manège, equestrian shop and large car park all on site. A bus stops at the school entrance.
