Red Earth Equestrian Centre is a well-established riding school in Turton, Bolton, open since 2006 and run by BHSAI-qualified instructor Stephanie Holker. The centre takes riders aged 9 and above and specialises in dressage, show jumping, eventing and general riding. Facilities include a floodlit 20×60m all-weather arena, cross-country training areas, and moorland hacking routes.

Current prices: Group 1hr £35; Private 30min £35, Private 1hr £60; Semi-private 1hr £45 per person; Pony day £70; Group hack 1hr £40; Private hack 1hr £55. Open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday only (closed Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday). The centre also hosts friendly competitions and clinics, and has an equine rehabilitation facility (North West Rehab Centre) on site. Payment by cash or cheque only.

A correctly fitted hat to current safety standards (PAS 015 or VG1). Bicycle helmets are not permitted. Hats are available to hire, usually reserved for first-time riders.

Footwear

Boots with a small heel, riding boots, walking boots or wellies all work. Trainers and flat-soled shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.

Clothing

Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs must be covered, no vest tops or shorts. Jackets and coats should be fastened securely. Waterproofs are recommended for outdoor lessons.

Hair & jewellery

Long hair should be tied back in a ponytail before putting on your helmet. All jewellery must be removed before riding.

Clients arriving in unsuitable clothing or footwear may not be permitted to ride, for their own safety. If in doubt, contact the yard before your visit.
