Who is Christopher Bartle?

Christopher Bartle is a former Olympic and World Championship event rider and one of the UK's most respected equestrian coaches. He has served as GB High Performance Dressage Coach and is based at Yorkshire Riding Centre, which he has run for over 60 years.

Can I ride at Yorkshire Riding Centre without my own horse?

Yes. The centre has its own string of horses available for lessons and residential training programmes.

What does the residential training break include?

Multi-day packages covering dressage, showjumping and cross-country, with accommodation on or near the site. Contact the centre directly for current availability and pricing as packages vary by season and availability.

Is it suitable for beginners?

The centre offers tuition across all levels. Contact directly to discuss what programme is appropriate for your current riding standard.

What to wear

Standard guidance for equestrian yards in the UK. Check with your yard if you're unsure.

Riding helmet

A correctly fitted hat to current safety standards (PAS 015 or VG1). Bicycle helmets are not permitted. Hats are available to hire, usually reserved for first-time riders.

Footwear

Boots with a small heel, riding boots, walking boots or wellies all work. Trainers and flat-soled shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.

Clothing

Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs must be covered, no vest tops or shorts. Jackets and coats should be fastened securely. Waterproofs are recommended for outdoor lessons.

Hair & jewellery

Long hair should be tied back in a ponytail before putting on your helmet. All jewellery must be removed before riding.
